Article: Free help to encourage your child to read
Bookstart is a nationwide scheme coordinated by independent arts charity Booktrust. Their aim is to provide a free pack of books to every child in the UK so as to encourage and promote reading from as early an age as possible. This has been shown to greatly benefit children academically later in life, and most importantly, teaches them that books can be fun and stimulates their imaginations.
Bookstart delivers packages of books at different stages of your child's life, initially around 8 months, then between 18-30 months, and again at around 3 years.
Packs are delivered through various avenues to the parent or carer (including nurseries) via health visitors, library services and local education services.
Each Bookstart pack contains age-related materials including reading books and information for the parent detailing local library serives and activities, such as Bookstart Book Crawl and Bookstart Rhymetimes.

If you have not yet received your books, or if you want to know more about the scheme, please go to the Bookstart website.
