A Norfolk manufacturer launches its latest children’s game with a cupcake competition!Orchard Toys Wheres My Cupcake

Comments Simon Newbery, MD at Orchard Toys, “Many of the staff like to bake and we all have a sweet tooth, so we thought that a cupcakebaking competition would be a great way to launch our latest game, Where’s my Cupcake? ”

Designed for children of 3 years plus, the game will:

  • Encourage observation, matching and counting skills
  • Develop social communication, sharing, co-operation and manners
  • Link with Early Learning Goals and National Curriculum Key Stage 1

Interestingly, following the game’s testing at a local school, the gameplay was changed quite drastically. Originally, if a player picked up a card that matched the one on the top of another player’s pile, the player with the matching card could take the other player’s pile. But during testing, the children were reticent to Cupcake press releasefollow these instructions. When asked why, they responded by saying that they were taught not to take from a classmate! Because of this, the game was changed so that the player with a matching card now has to offer it to the player with the pile of cards. They have to say “yes please” and “thank you” on receiving the card, thus good manners was introduced into the gameplay.

As Orchard Toys has pledged to raise £2,100 towards EACH’s Quidenham Hospice this year, they asked Mark Loades, Norfolk Partnerships Manager at the charity to judge the competition. All monies raised from the sale of the cupcakes will be donated to EACH.
