Families invited to help build giant map of the world from 1 million LEGO bricks at Southbank Centre
From 23rd July until mid-August visitors to Southbank Centre, London will have the opportunity to build ‘Our World in LEGO®’ as part of the summer-long Festival of the World celebrations.
Each day from 12 noon to 4pm, children from age five upwards and adults alike will be able to help recreate a giant map of the world measuring 12 by five metres and featuring more than 1 million LEGO bricks in 21 different colours on 4,000 building plates designed especially for the Festival. Build stations managed by volunteers will be positioned around the designated area, with template instructions available for each separate building plate.
The public will also be invited to help build a boundary wall made up of 4,800 LEGO DUPLO bricks, which will surround the map. Other features will include notable landmarks from around the world such as Big Ben, the Empire State Building, Taj Mahal, Sydney Opera House and The Great Sphinx of Giza as well as four mountain ranges - the Alps, Andes, Himalayas and Rockies.
Located on the Riverside Terrace outside the Royal Festival Hall, ‘Our World in LEGO®’ will grow each day and then be on display for a fortnight.
Please note one building plate will be allowed per person. Exact times of workshops may vary and are weather dependent.
